Lake Mondsee, at 481 m, is one of the warmest swimming lakes of the Salzkammergut – hot summers bring readings above 25 °C. The gauge is at the Limnological Institute in Mondsee. From St. Gilgen it is only a few kilometres over the Scharfling pass.
